Family Promise

Coordinator: Joyce Ann Tuten

Family Promise of Effingham County is a ministry that houses homeless families with children. Beginning April, 2018, overnight housing is provided at one location at Center Point Church located on the corner of Georgia Highway 21 and Ralph Rahn Road, Springfield. Previously, families were housed on a rotation basis at participating churches for one week per quarter for four quarters per year.

A mother loses her job, a father is kept from working by an injury, a family is forced from their home by fire or natural disaster. Healthcare costs soar, public transportation is underfunded, affordable housing is difficult to find. These are the reasons why families make up 40 percent of the homeless population, and why one out of every four homeless people is a child. In response, Family Promise brings the faith community together to host families while they find permanant housing, independence and dignity.

Guyton Christian Church is one of 13 coventant congregations in Effingham County that will provide overnight volunteers and meals for up to 14 people for one week each quarter while they look for employment and housing opportunities.

Volunteers are needed to provide food and fellowship during evening meals, as well as act as the overnight church guides for our congregation.  Call Joyce Ann Tuten, our volunteer coordinator, (912) 754-3290, to see how you can help.
